Who Are We?

Amazing Grace began in 2004 as a local ministry ofSalem United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia.   Several folks were approached by the then-pastor, Charles Moore, about forming a praise band to perform at the weekly Sunday services and to provide music for special occasions.

We started with three members and then increased to 4 about a year later.  We started playing both contemporary and traditional hymns and praise music, but as our “style” evolved, we found we were leaning more toward folk and country gospel.  Now, three years later, we perform mostly in these genres, but do occasionally throw in a traditional or more contemporary piece.

Since the spring of 2007, we have been performing members of the Tidewater Arts Outreach, a consortium of both amateur and professional musicians, artists and artisans in the Tidewater (Norfolk/Virginia Beach) Virginia area who take their talents to the residents of convalescent and nursing homes and others who may not be able to get out to performances.  We play on the average of 2 performances a month in various nursing homes and convalescent homes in the area and our music really seems to be welcomed by the folks who attend.  When we play in these places, we perform a mix of gospel and secular music ranging from Jimmy Buffett to Porgy and Bess.  We always get a blessing from playing and from the interaction with the folks in the audience.

We have opened for The John Ivins Worship Band from Richmond and have played in churches in Virginia and North Carolina.
